It has been a busy week. I’m so glad that the weekend is finally here. A few highlights from the last couple of days are:
1. My Olloclip arrived in the mail. I ordered one after reading about it in wired. The image above was one of the first ones that I snapped, while using it. Incidentally, this week I read an article in Wired about Instagram. It made me feel a little better about myself, hahaha.
2. Honest people rule. Yesterday I received a mystery paypal deposit. I was a bit nervous, at first. When I checked into it a bit more, I realized it was from a dude in the UK who I had licensed some photos to in May of 2010 for his postcard biz. A welcome surprise. I had basically just written off getting paid for that one.
Have a great weekend.

Well, I guess that I am now officially one of those people who posts crappy cell phone shots on their blog. Hahahaha. Despite not really having anything planned for the weekend, it ended up being a bit of a banger. I am now officially broke. This Tuesday makes 5 years that I’m married to Mrs. Reagan. I told her that we could take a trip to 47th Street, so that she could pick out something sparkly she liked. We did, and she did. Since we were in the neighborhood, we hit up little Brazil.
We downed some pao de queijo, mandioca frita, guarana, etc.. It was delicious.
To round things out, Reagan recently landed a gig contributing weekly to a site called Divine Caroline, dropping hair knowledge on the masses. We had to shoot a couple of frames for her first post. Here is one of the options that I quite liked. It almost does her eyes justice (photos never really do, you have to see them in real life to appreciate).

Other good things that happened this weekend: Cassette funded. So stoked about this thing. Thanks to everyone who helped my friends fund their project. Reagan and I finished off the weekend watching “True Grit.” I love cowboy movies. It’s kind of odd, because I don’t really like cowboys. But, I grew up watching this type of movie with papa Breinholt, and I guess you could say that have developed a taste for the genre.
Have a great week.

As quickly as the snow came, it was gone. Today is 60 degrees and rainy. Mother nature is schizophrenic, I tell you. I guess I am too.
After years of badmouthing all things Mac, I broke down and bought an iPh#$e last night. As much as I love Blackberry, the camera on it just sucks too much to even justify using. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly in love with my new apple device. I still don’t like the touchscreen keyboard. Here are some other changes that I would make (after having used it for about 4 hours, so far):
- Make the unlock slider half way up the screen so that my thumb doesn’t have to cramp itself when unlocking with one hand.
- Auto power-down, power-on scheduling. I hate a buzzing phone in the middle of the night.
- Ability to select different alerts for different mailboxes.
- Customizable alert profiles (ie, turn off everything but the alarm clock and calendar alerts)
Maybe these are already functions that are available? I haven’t read the manual, yet. I meant to bring it on the train with me this morning, but forgot.
Anyway, I am now officially on instagram (though I have yet to post anything). In case you would like to be friends, I’m “shotbyjake.” Have a great weekend!

Yeah, we finally had our first legitimate snowstorm of 2012 in NYC. This is normally where I would post some photos that I shot around the city; in the snow; of Reagan bundled up, etc.. Unfortunately for me, my creativity level has been rock bottom, lately. When the good ideas are flowing, so is the motivation to execute them. The converse is also true. I think that part of it has to be the fact the tachometer has be pinned in the red in the realm of “real” work. Now that I spend so many hours per week pouring large amounts of energy into left-brained pragmatic-type projects, I’m wondering if there is just no energy leftover for creativity. I haven’t been dragging my camera around with me nearly as often. Maybe I should just suck it up and cross over to the dark side, buy an iPhone and join the masses on instagram.
Moving on: I saw a few things today that I really liked. The first thing was a post on ISO50 about Poler camping gear. I don’t think that I could ever pull off the snuggy/slanket thing, even as a joke. This thing however…

The top photo in this post was also lifted from ISO50, who apparently lifted it from Poler’s instagram. There it is again, that ubiquitous “gram” word. I’m so torn about it.
Finally, what is cooler than contemporary art created on decommissioned military planes in the middle of the desert? “Not much” is the correct answer.

Here is a little excerpt describing the ‘Boneyard Project’:
Beginning with a series executed by some of today’s most prominent graffiti artists, drawing on a medium that gained notoriety as a pictorial elaboration and adornment of subways and trains, with plans to include a broad variety of artists from different fields of practice, The Boneyard Project will seek to re-envision our evolving relationship with flying through populist and fine art perspectives, allowing prominent figures from the fine art world, installation and conceptual art disciplines as well as revered figures of youth culture, to each remind us of that unique romance we have had with planes in our lifetimes.

Even though this was a short week, because of the holiday on Monday, it has seemed like one of the longest weeks ever. It is probably just because I’m trying to get into my new routine (which is a lot more boring than my old one). Anyway, I’m very glad that the weekend has finally arrived. I had a few minutes to flip through my reader this morning (which has been piling up), and I found these images of some very cool new work by SatOne (above). The image is from his “Chromolog” canvas series. Check out the rest over here.

This past protracted weekend was kind of a bonus, for me. I has completely forgotten about the holiday, and didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be working Monday, until last Thursday. Downside= I was unable to come up with a plan for spending the bonus weekend, on such short notice. Upside= I was able to spend the weekend getting caught up various items that have been neglecting for a while (including sleep).
In other news: After my realization of how out of shape I am (discovered while becoming winded in the snow last weekend), I have joined a gym. Yes, a gym. It is pretty amazing how quickly I have put on body blah after having leaned up so much for the fall marathons last year. I should have expected it, however, after not having run a single step since the NY Marathon in the beginning of Nov. I’m actually kind of excited to get my body back to where I like it to be. I have only worked out once (last Friday) since joining. I ran for 30 mins on the treadmill (I did just shy of 4 miles, and I was kind of tough), rolled the ITBs and stretched, then lifted for an hour. I have been sore all weekend. It is the good kind of sore, that reminds me I actually exerted myself physically. I have also been joking with Reagan all weekend about how I’m going to be jacked an tan. Hahahaha. Juiceheads are her biggest turnoff. Alas, I don’t think that I could bulk up beyond the proportions of a normal looking dude, even if I was on juice and doing 2-a-days. A gift and a curse, I suppose. Now that I have swallowed the idea of being that cliche person who joins a gym in Jan., I’m going to make sure that I don’t follow through with part 2 of the cliche (working out twice and quitting the gym). I have a goal to be effortlessly ticking off 10 miles again, by 6 weeks. Wish me luck.

It is a rare thing when I let this here page go an entire week unattended. But, I had a pretty decent excuse. Actually there is no such thing as decent excuse. Excuses are lame. I actually got tired as I was writing the word “excuse.” Anyway, I spent the weekend enjoying the Rockies. We practiced our invert-tricks on my parents’ trampoline (Above: me, by Reagan) before spending the rest of the weekend at Snowbird’s Cliff Lodge. The trampoline inverts ended up being the only inverts I threw all weekend. I hate to come back to the excuses, but I realized how old and fat I am over the weekend. Gross. The upside was riding with my good friends, and my cousin Tiff, for the first time.
The snow was garbage, when we arrived. It was still better than East Coast hard pack, but crap by UT standards. Then Saturday we woke up to multiple inches of fresh. We had some solid lines all morning. It was worth waiting a day to grab some of those over-the-head powder shots. Sunday, was a bit on the chilly side. But it was also fun, because my brother came up, and we all rode together, like old times.

I brought a handful of stickers to rep some of my favorite local brands. Nothing like some strategic placement at resort on the other side of the country. If you aren’t too distracted by the hotties in the image below, try to locate the “ONLY” sticker.

Then, as they say, all good things come to an end.

I have gone “full Brooklyn” with my facial hair (or full state trooper, depending on the glasses I’m wearing).
Ok, maybe not for the full new year. But at least for the party tomorrow night. Happy New Year!!

The first of three crazy weekends in a row came to a close yesterday. We had an overflowing agenda for the duration. Unfortunately for me, I only made it through Sunday night before being totally wiped out with a cold/flu. I felt it coming on Friday, with the sniffles, etc.. So I loaded up on vitamins. But I knew I was in trouble when I woke up on Monday morning and could not breath or talk. So annoying. I only ended up getting out of bed like 3 times during the entire day.
Notwithstanding the illness that befell me, I was able to pack in plenty of festivities before Monday. There was a bit of Korea town Karaoke. There was a bit of Catch Phrase. And there was plenty of quality time spent hanging out with friends and eating delicious things.
Let’s hope that the next two weekends go as well. Also let’s hope that they can be devoid of any incapacitating illness.

I have traditionally been one of those grinchy types when it comes to this time of year. Christmas/New Years would just stress me out because of all of the traveling and the drain on the bank account. I have to say that this year I’m really looking forward to things. We didn’t do cards this year (which was a huge load off). We aren’t traveling until after the new year. And when we do it will be for snowboarding. Even though we have a lot of things planned for both weekends, they aren’t stressful things. Have a happy and mellow Christmas!
