Weekend!!!

A few things.

Have you watched our video? I posted it on HDOF the other day. I really love this video and I feel so lucky that we were able to use such an amazing camera to film it. It really felt like a once in a lifetime thing, but hopefully it wont be! I need to do it again!

Slow Hair from Jacob Breinholt on Vimeo.

We’re heading down to DC for the weekend. We still haven’t decided if we are leaving tonight or early tomorrow morning. I don’t get off of work until 9, but we were thinking tonight because of all the storm hype. They are suggesting parts of Manhattan evacuate you know!

We are so excited to hang out with our friends. We are staying with Maggie and Ben, but also will be there to hang with Jon and Kat. I cannot wait to see both of them! I haven’t seen Maggs and Ben since last fall, and Jon/Kat since we went to Charleston last summer! Even if we are stuck inside keeping out of the storm, I’m really excited for this weekend.

Cool. Bye!

The Bride Started a Blog.

You all know my friend Sarah, right? You definitely do. I talk/write about her all the time, she is my best friend, you know?

Well, she started a blog! It took her almost two years of talking about it to finally get to it!

I love it already, she has been telling stories about being a new wife, changing her name, living in Granada (in the Caribbean) and being a childhood actor.

True story. Once we were hanging out and I was looking through her movies and I found this old cheesy horror film from the 80s. I asked about it and Sarah told me she was in it and that in the end she kills the villain. We watched it. It was wonderful.

So, go read Sarah Smiles Awhile!

BTW, here are a few more pictures from her wedding.

And one from her honeymoon in Hawaii. Because she looks adorable.

playing with lasers, hanging out with scientists

2011-shotbyjake-com-4884

Despite what this may look like, no, I was not hanging out on the set of some forthcoming Daft Punk video. I spent the day Tuesday hanging out with a bunch of scientists. I was basically the only person in the room without a PhD. I’m not going to lie, it was a bit intimidating. But, I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to kick it with my good friend Tadd (on the left in the above photo), while he was in town for the day. Throw in some time playing with high speed cameras and lasers? I was basically in nerd heaven. I heard the word “laser” more times in a non-joking context yesterday than I had probably heard before that, my entire life.

I thought I was the only one who drew nerdy diagrams in my notes. Apparently Tadd also does. I had to get a shot of his notebook above.

Here are a couple more looks at the lab.

Wall street goofs.

Jen and I went to the Food Truck Festival at Southstreet Seaport on Saturday and ate a lot of food together. (we didn’t get to eat the pickle in the picture, because I dropped it)

When we were nice and full, we walked back to the car, which was parked on Water St. and Maiden. We walked right past Wall St which has these mirrored pieces of art just hanging out in the middle of life. They are right next to each other, and one looks like a square donut, and the other looks like a donut that never had it’s munchkin punched out. (for those of you who don’t have a Dunkin’ Donuts near you, a “Munchkin” is a “Donut Hole”. it’s a good analogy for those of you who are like me and think in donut.)

Anyway, we hung out in the square donut for a while and took some pictures since it seemed a waste to move the car before the muni-meter was up. (aside from thinking in donut, I also think in parking).

This is my favorite picture from the bunch.

I think the Wall St/FIDI area are the biggest contrasting neighborhood as far as weekends/week days. It is soooo busy during the week with people working and traffic and craziness (Jake works down there!) but on the weekends it’s a ghost town. I looked for parking for a shorter time than I look in my own neighborhood! And no one was even around for this whole square donut/non-munchkinned donut photo shoot!

Well, I guess I should go eat some donuts!

(ps, i’ve talked about donuts a lot of times on my blob.)

PS don’t forget to read my Sheraton review! And make sure you enter the Blogher sweeps while you’re at it!

How real photographers shoot lightning

gwb-lightning-strike-8-19

Ok, this is the shot that I wish I would have captured last night. We had an even better storm tonight. Unfortunately, I was jammed up in the laundromat, like a total punk. Luckily, my homey Zack was out there, playing human lightning rod tonight, when he shot the image above. ZT, thanks for showing us how it’s done.

Beach.

We beached! Ahhh, we beached.

It was so nice, I really do love the beach.
We drove to The *Jersey Shore’s Long Branch on Saturday with Sam and Anna, and enjoyed all the beach has to offer. We splashed in the ocean, chased seagulls, convinced ourselves we kicked a shark underwater, we ate snacks, read magazines, took naps and got stuck in traffic. That’s what beaching is about.

I think we can even get in one more beach trip this summer. So fun.

Also, remember when I went to Chicago? Click here to read my Sheraton review! There’s a chance you can win your own getaway!

*You might be surprised to find out that the Jersey Shore has many beautiful beaches. Some that aren’t overrun by orange gorilla-juice heads. If you’re looking for GTLers, you’re looking for Seaside.

Weekend Items

2011-shotbyjake-com-1341bw

Reagan and I spent the majority of the weekend, starting Friday, in Eastern Long Island. The occasion was for our close friend Sarah’s wedding. The wedding was amazing. It was a lot of work for Reagan, since she was actually in the wedding. The bride and all of the maids looked flawless (Reagan published a few photos more wedding photos on Hairdresser on fire).  Reagan was no exception. I sneaked my camera along in a tote. I didn’t want to be that guy waving around a big camera, as if the people who were being paid mad cash to shoot the thing weren’t doing a sufficient job. One of the favs that I snapped was the image above.

Saturday evening, we were chilling in the hotel room, and the light was just blasting in from the window, right before the sun set. Reagan was sitting on the bed eating some swedish fish, when I snapped this one. This ended up being one of my favorite shots from the weekend.

The wedding.

Well, we’re back from the Hamptons!

It was perfect. I would say it was basically perfect, because basically is one of my favorite words. But it was actually just perfect. Perfect perfect. I’ve watched Sarah and Matt fall in love over the last four years, and celebrating it with them meant the world to me. I can’t get over how wonderful and honored I felt to be up there with Sarah, as her Maid of Honor, signing the Marriage License, holding her bouquet, adjusting her train, and seeing Matt look at her throughout their vows. I’m teary!

The last year and a half of wedding parties and planning has been so fun. I’m sad it’s over!

I’ll be back with more pictures and stories soon. I’m all tuckered out!

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway!

Cool Project

hollysbed-750

I posted one of these images a while back, vaguely mentioning what it was about. Well…. One of Reagan’s friends and long-time client has worked in fashion forever. She recently left her full time gig, in order to freelance. She had this idea where she would use her apartment to style up items, photograph them and sell them online. A few weeks ago she asked me if I would like to shoot it, and help with the web stuff. It sounded fun, so of course I said yes. Anyway, The site went live today. I think that it is pretty cool, given the fact that it was all done with two days of shooting, and only about a week and a half of coding (mostly done by my friend Joe, who I enlisted to help share the load). Anyway, check it out when you get a chance. The site is Hollysapartment.com. Also, check out the write-up in Racked, today. Here are the rest of the rooms we shot, below–

Fourth of July Shenanigans

2011-shotbyjake-com-9648bw

We had a great weekend, with all sorts of patriotic activities. Sunday night, Reagan threw a bachelorette party for her friend who is getting married next weekend. I took the opportunity, while she was out, to build and install her new desk in the former guest bedroom.

2011-shotbyjake-com-9477

She didn’t waste any time putting it to use.

Monday, we barbequed on the roof with our friends Joe, Jen and Frank (plus Nikki the dog) and lit sparklers. The sunset was basically the most amazing thing ever. Here are a few images from the festivities.

2011-shotbyjake-com-1275

The shot below was some team work. Reag wrote “Happy,” Jen wrote “Fourth.”

The next photo was all my idea (haha). Frank shot it for us.

You will probably recognize my hand style on this one.
