pretty stoked about this

Since I have been working out again with some degree of regularity, I have also started recording my personal metrics again. Just for kicks, I pulled up my totals from last year, and compared them to my totals from 2010.
In 2011, I only had 552 total miles, with an average pace of about 7.5 minutes per mile. I have to say that the Garmin reports (above) are not nearly as interesting to look at, as the ones that Nike+ generates (below). But I am willing to give up the fancy graphics for the additional accuracy that Garmin provides. According to my Nike+ stats from 2010, I ran 798 miles with an average pace of just over 7 minutes per mile.
I’m pretty sure that the Nike+ stats are padded resulting from inaccuracy. But I know that I ran a lot more in 2010 than last year. In 2011 I didn’t run at all until March. I took the beginning of January off, this year. But as of last week, I have already racked up a handful of miles in 2012. So, I already have a leg up on last year. Here’s to beating last year’s 552 miles, in 2012.

For all of the many reasons that I am annoyed by Facebook, it is times like these, that it totally redeems itself. I discovered tonight via the social network, that two of my favorite local ska bands from HS are doing a reunion show in July. I wrote about Stretch Armstrong about a year ago, over here. It’s one of those events that I may justify a weekend trip to the land of Zion. I hope that I can make it work.

I actually posted about this video on EFoG in December, but thought it was worthy of sharing on here as well. For people who are hoping that this video is pervy, you will be disappointed. Despite the sort of racy thumbnail of the video, it is very tame. Here is what I said on EFoG.
I came across this vid the other day on OEN. I have to say that I was quite fond of the track and the imagery in the vid. Beyond having an older euro-spec Audi, this video (shot with a pair of Canon 7Ds), offers up a captivating cut that melds well with the song. The track is by Bombay Bicycle Club. It’s called “Lights Out, Words Gone.” The video was made by Karim Huu Do. Enjoy it, below.

This past protracted weekend was kind of a bonus, for me. I has completely forgotten about the holiday, and didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be working Monday, until last Thursday. Downside= I was unable to come up with a plan for spending the bonus weekend, on such short notice. Upside= I was able to spend the weekend getting caught up various items that have been neglecting for a while (including sleep).
In other news: After my realization of how out of shape I am (discovered while becoming winded in the snow last weekend), I have joined a gym. Yes, a gym. It is pretty amazing how quickly I have put on body blah after having leaned up so much for the fall marathons last year. I should have expected it, however, after not having run a single step since the NY Marathon in the beginning of Nov. I’m actually kind of excited to get my body back to where I like it to be. I have only worked out once (last Friday) since joining. I ran for 30 mins on the treadmill (I did just shy of 4 miles, and I was kind of tough), rolled the ITBs and stretched, then lifted for an hour. I have been sore all weekend. It is the good kind of sore, that reminds me I actually exerted myself physically. I have also been joking with Reagan all weekend about how I’m going to be jacked an tan. Hahahaha. Juiceheads are her biggest turnoff. Alas, I don’t think that I could bulk up beyond the proportions of a normal looking dude, even if I was on juice and doing 2-a-days. A gift and a curse, I suppose. Now that I have swallowed the idea of being that cliche person who joins a gym in Jan., I’m going to make sure that I don’t follow through with part 2 of the cliche (working out twice and quitting the gym). I have a goal to be effortlessly ticking off 10 miles again, by 6 weeks. Wish me luck.

This took me a little longer than I had anticipated, to make. So, it’s kind of late. But it is still January, so whatev. Here is a little video slideshow recap of our 2011.
Have a great weekend!

It is a rare thing when I let this here page go an entire week unattended. But, I had a pretty decent excuse. Actually there is no such thing as decent excuse. Excuses are lame. I actually got tired as I was writing the word “excuse.” Anyway, I spent the weekend enjoying the Rockies. We practiced our invert-tricks on my parents’ trampoline (Above: me, by Reagan) before spending the rest of the weekend at Snowbird’s Cliff Lodge. The trampoline inverts ended up being the only inverts I threw all weekend. I hate to come back to the excuses, but I realized how old and fat I am over the weekend. Gross. The upside was riding with my good friends, and my cousin Tiff, for the first time.
The snow was garbage, when we arrived. It was still better than East Coast hard pack, but crap by UT standards. Then Saturday we woke up to multiple inches of fresh. We had some solid lines all morning. It was worth waiting a day to grab some of those over-the-head powder shots. Sunday, was a bit on the chilly side. But it was also fun, because my brother came up, and we all rode together, like old times.
I brought a handful of stickers to rep some of my favorite local brands. Nothing like some strategic placement at resort on the other side of the country. If you aren’t too distracted by the hotties in the image below, try to locate the “ONLY” sticker.
Then, as they say, all good things come to an end.

I can’t say that I love everything RJD2 does. But I like enough of it to keep some of his tracks on my playlist most of the time. He isn’t your run of the mill 00′s dj. As odd as it may sound, I like a lot of his “live” stuff better than what he does in the studio. I particularly like a breezeblock set that he once did for the BBC’s Radio 1. But it’s 28 minutes long. So, I’m not going to share it on this post. I feel like a lot of the stuff on his albums is a little bit too overproduced and busy. Anyway, as I mentioned above, he has enough good stuff to keep him interesting. The track that I’m sharing today is from “Since we last spoke.” It’s called “1976.” Which is a dope year. Listen here.

It has been a rough and tumble 2012, so far. I’ll just say that things have not all gone ideally. As dumb as it probably sounds, I’m actually eagerly looking forward to getting back into a groove. Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed all of the time goofing off, hanging out with friends and behaving like a gluttonous fool. But it has caught up with me, to say the least. I have one more hurdle to overcome before returning to life as usual. It is a snowboarding trip this coming weekend. I’m hoping to get enough done before then, that I can really detach and enjoy the trip (despite the fact that there appears to be a lack of snow right now).
In the meantime, I’m not going to complain at all about not having any snow in the city. I will milk this weather as long as it keeps coming. We spent the afternoon shopping in Soho (namely loading up at the Burton store). It was barely jacket weather. Checkout Reag’s getup, below. She wasn’t even zipped up.

I have gone “full Brooklyn” with my facial hair (or full state trooper, depending on the glasses I’m wearing).
Ok, maybe not for the full new year. But at least for the party tomorrow night. Happy New Year!!
